A Road Down Memory Lane

Part 1

This project is deeply inspired by my connection to the village where my family and I grew up. The landscape, architecture, and scenery shaped my perspective as a child in profound ways. After returning nearly 10 years later, I was struck by how much the village had changed. What I once remembered as a lively, densely populated place is now quieter, more serene, and marked by a sense of stillness.

The village, once full of constant movement and a strong sense of community, now feels different. The children I grew up with, including myself, have all left to pursue our lives, and this absence has left the village feeling more isolated. It’s a strange feeling, as I vaguely remember spending my entire childhood with them. The memories of our shared experiences linger, but the physical presence of those who once filled the village is gone.

Working with photography I wanted to create a body of work focusing on the architecture of the city and focusing on photographing individual houses allowing space around each one so that I am able to expose the surrounding and the landscapes behind and around each house representing the isolation which is felt but also enhancing the themes of memory and change in the village.

Part 2

This project documents the interiors of homes in a rural Romanian village, capturing the quiet beauty and emotional weight carried within these domestic spaces. Each photograph reflects a way of life shaped by tradition, modesty, and faith. Religious icons, handmade textiles, and everyday objects serve as visual traces of memory and identity, revealing how people adapt and endure in the face of social and economic change.

By focusing on the intimate details of home life, the work highlights a cultural atmosphere that is both deeply rooted and slowly fading. It is not just a study of space, but of presence — of the lives that continue quietly, surrounded by the past, and holding on to meaning in subtle, powerful ways.
